Botox® at Aesthetic Insights

Botox® Cosmetic is a simple treatment done in less that 20 minutes to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead, crow’s feet and more. It can also be used to reduce sweating in underarms and decrease tooth clenching and grinding for people who suffer from TMJ syndrome.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® works by temporarily relaxing muscles. It’s made from a toxin produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. When injected into specific muscles, it blocks signals from nerves that tell those muscles to contract. This causes the muscles to relax, which can smooth out wrinkles. The effects are temporary. It’s commonly used for cosmetic purposes to reduce wrinkles, and also for medical conditions like TMJ or excessive sweating.

How long until I see results?

Botox® starts working at 2 days after injection and peaks in effectiveness around day 14 after injection. At that time if there is still some unwanted movement we will do a follow-up visit where you can add product if needed.

How long will my results last?

The effects are temporary, typically lasting 3-4 months, after which the muscles gradually regain their normal function.

Will I look worse when it wears off?

No, you won’t look worse after Botox® wears off. Botox® temporarily relaxes the muscles to reduce wrinkles or muscle spasms. When it wears off, those muscles gradually regain their normal function. Your appearance might return to how it was before you got Botox®, but it won’t make you look worse than you did originally. It’s a temporary treatment, so if you want to maintain the results, you will need to get Botox® injections again in the future.

Will it hurt?

Getting Botox injections can cause some discomfort, but it’s usually tolerable for most people. The needle used is very small, so the discomfort is often described as minimal—like a quick pinch or sting. Afterward, you might have a little redness or swelling at the injection site, but this typically goes away quickly. Overall, while it might be slightly uncomfortable during the procedure, most people find the results worth it.
